January 2012

The start to the New Year has been good. January has produced some good fish thus far and we can only hope it remains so.
The yellow fin tuna have been boated in and around the Cape Point area for the past few weeks, which has been fantastic for the smaller boats that can't get to the tuna grounds. The fish that have been boated are in the 25kg to 70kg class. This has been exciting – to say the least – that the smaller boats (mostly fishing with yellowtail outfits) have been catching these big fish and – I'm sure – have lost lots more.
The yellowtail has also been very good with a nice class of fish boated. The guys that are on the water first light and late evening have had better successes. Katonkel are also around at the moment and make for nice fishing on light tackle and are also a nice fish to eat.
I have also heard a report of some decent Geelbek (Cape Salmon) in the 5-10kg class landed by a few boats in the Cape Point area last week.
The snoek are also around the rocky bank area and it has been keeping some commercials busy.
The crayfish season is nearing its end on 15 January and will only be open again for Easter weekend.
I went cray fishing on Friday and to be honest we struggled to catch our quota because we had a few seals taking our snoek heads out the nets the whole time. But after an hour we managed to get our quota and get back home for a well deserved cold one.
Keep it safe on the water and please remember to bring your rubbish back and not throw it out at sea.

Magson Marine, myself – as the skipper and keen Body Boarder – and the local Body Board community once again helped out with probably the biggest anticipated event ever. An event was put together that can only be described as World Class with World Class riders. The waves that were surfed were really, really heavy and definitely not for the faint hearted.

| With the latest boat test by Leisure Boating they suggested the Adventure looks like an offshore boat. So we thought with the nice weather approaching we would like to try the boat at some offshore activities. On Wednesday the 6th of May we decided to go after we added the necessary safety equipment to comply to the 40n/mile rating. .
